Dear Rice Community,
The recent mass shootings of Asian-Americans in California coupled with the killing of an unarmed Black man by Memphis police compel us to write today to offer our support for each of you and to express our concern for your wellbeing.
We must work together to build a world that respects our shared humanity and values people from all backgrounds and perspectives. This is central to our community at Rice and it embodies our culture of care.
As you reflect upon these acts of violence, we encourage you to take care of yourself, your friends and your family while also supporting those who are struggling in the aftermath of these acts. We recognize the disparate impact these events have on individuals in our community - faculty, staff and students - and know that each of you will act with understanding, kindness and support.
If you need to talk to someone now or in the coming days, know that you are not alone and that the following resources are always available to all students. Staff and faculty seeking support are encouraged to contact Rice’s Employee Assistance Program at 713-500-3327.

It is especially important in challenging times like these that we are reminded of the values and deep sense of community that bind us together. Looking forward, the more we can work toward the full recognition and support of the humanity of all those around us, the better off all of us will be.
